Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a proven healing method of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in which sterile disposable needles are inserted into defined skin points. By stimulating these points, impulses are sent to the central nervous system, which in turn promotes the release of pain-relieving and mood-enhancing substances such as endorphins. The treatment has a local circulation-promoting and relaxing effect on the entire body.

Acupuncture is often used for the following complaints:

Pain: chronic back pain, knee osteoarthritis, neck pain, migraines and tension headaches are the most common

Mental stress: stress, sleep disorders, states of exhaustion and mild depressive moods

Allergies and respiratory diseases: especially hay fever (pollen allergy), asthma and chronic sinusitis

Hormonal issues: menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms and preparation for childbirth

Digestion: irritable bowel syndrome or functional stomach issues

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends acupuncture for over 40 conditions, including respiratory diseases, functional disorders and psychosomatic conditions.

A single acupuncture treatment costs between 120 and 156 francs.

Since I am EMR-certified, the treatment costs can be billed via supplementary insurance for complementary medicine. Please check the exact cover provided by your supplementary insurance before your first treatment.

The risks associated with acupuncture are extremely low. Rare side effects include slight redness at the treatment site, a temporary feeling of heaviness or slight bruising. These disappear after a few days.

As a qualified acupuncturist, I precisely control the insertion depth of the needles and the anatomical structures to ensure that no complications, such as nerve damage, occur.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

The main benefit of acupuncture lies in its ability to relieve pain and improve general well-being. It releases natural painkillers (endorphins), promotes blood circulation and stimulates the nervous system. Side effects are very rare and are generally harmless.

In principle, children can be acupunctured as early as infancy. The methods are adapted slightly depending on age. As smaller children are often unable to lie still, I usually only start acupuncture treatments on school-age children. I use particularly fine needles on children to alleviate complaints such as allergies or pain.

Can I stop taking medication with acupuncture?

No, not in principle. Please consult your doctor before changing the medication you are taking.

No, acupuncture does not generally impair the effectiveness of other treatments. However, it can complement them by strengthening the body's self-healing powers. Acupuncture does not repair destroyed structures, but alleviates functional disorders. It is important that acupuncture does not delay or replace the necessary conventional diagnostics and therapy.

I do not usually perform acupuncture for the following indications: patients with acute inflammation, skin injuries, strong blood thinners, severe coagulation disorders, pacemakers and patients with severe mental disorders.

Yes, acupuncture can be combined very well with other treatments, such as physiotherapy or massages. The effect is often even enhanced as the treatments complement each other. However, it is important that you rest after the treatment and avoid physical exertion, as heat stimulates blood circulation and can increase sensitivity.
